Assurance

Assurance is the way of being sure, certain and confident enterprise capabilities, resources and activities demonstrate compliance.

Assurance Capability

The assurance capability is the enterprise capability system which functions to realize corrective action boards, external auditing, certification, and assuring business continuity, legal, safety, security and mission success.

The purpose of the assurance capability is to enable and assure the ability to control the independent assessment of the monitoring and measuring activities of the enterprise, business, process, information and IT capabilities and the system and service offerings of the enterprise.

Assurance Management

Assurance management is the enterprise capability management of the assurance capability.

The purpose of assurance management is to enable and assure the management and abilities of the assurance capabilities of the enterprise are controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

Assurance Management Responsibilities

The enterprise manager role is responsible for assurance management of the assurance capability.

Assurance management work products include assurance management ideas, requirements, plans, risks, opportunities, reviews, decisions and action items.

Assurance Architecture

The assurance architecture is the enterprise architecture of assurance management of the assurance capability.

The enterprise manager role uses the assurance architecture to support assurance management responsibilities and activities.

The purpose of the assurance architecture is to provide a management structure to enable and assure the assurance capability (the independent assessment of the monitoring and measuring activities) of the business, process, information, IT, technology systems and services of the enterprise is controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

The structure includes corrective action boards, external auditing and certifications, and business continuity, legal, safety, security, and mission assurance.

Assurance Architecture Responsibilities

The enterprise architect role is responsible for architecting the assurance architecture in support of the assurance management responsibilities of the enterprise manager role.

Assurance architecture work products include assurance architecture concepts, descriptions, models, views, viewpoints, specifications and analyses.

Assurance Team

As shown in Figure 44 – Assurance Team Concept, assurance is interconnected with and interdependent on operations, process improvement, data, configurations, records, information utilization, system solution and service solution.
