Configurations

Configurations are processed results and arrangements of data, information, materials, parts, assemblies and other things placed into a context for a specific use.

Configurations Capability

The configurations capability is the information capability system of configurations items (business reports, specifications, drawings, analyses, build and test reports, product configurations, system configurations and service configurations), dispositions and effectivities.

The purpose of the configurations capability is to enable and assure the abilities of the configurations of the enterprise.

Configuration Management

Configuration management is the information capability management of the configurations capabilities.

The purpose of configuration management is to enable and assure the management and abilities of the configurations capabilities of the enterprise are controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

Configuration Management Responsibilities

The information manager role is responsible for configuration management of the configurations capability.

Configuration management work products include configuration management ideas, requirements, plans, risks, opportunities, reviews, decisions and action items.

Configurations Architecture

The configurations architecture is the information architecture of configuration management of the configurations capability.

The information manager role uses the configurations architecture to support configuration management responsibilities and activities.

The purpose of the configurations architecture is to provide a management structure to enable and assure the configurations capability of the enterprise is controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

The structure includes data configurations, product configurations, system configurations and service configurations.

Configurations Architecture Responsibilities

The information architect role is responsible for architecting the configurations architecture in support of the configuration management responsibilities of the information manager role.

Configurations architecture work products include configuration architecture concepts, descriptions, models, views, viewpoints, specifications and analyses.

Configurations Team

As shown in Figure 62 – Configurations Team Concept, configurations is interconnected with and interdependent on enterprise, business, process, IT, system offering and service offering.
