The purpose of data management is to enable and assure the management and abilities of the data capabilities of the enterprise are controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.
Data Management Responsibilities
The information manager role is responsible for data management of the data capability.
Data management work products include data management ideas, requirements, plans, risks, opportunities, reviews, decisions and action items.
The data architecture is the information architecture of data management of the data capability.
The information manager role uses the data architecture to support data management responsibilities and activities.
The purpose of the data architecture is to provide a management structure to enable and assure the data capability of the enterprise is controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.
The structure includes data types, data sources, data technologies, data stores and data operations.
Data Architecture Responsibilities
The information architect role is responsible for architecting the data architecture in support of the data management responsibilities of the information manager role.
Data architecture work products include data architecture concepts, descriptions, models, views, viewpoints, specifications and analyses. Specific examples are data models, object models, data maps, data flow diagrams and data analyses.
