Integration

Integration is the way offerings, capabilities, resources and activities are connected, combined and coordinated into a unified whole.

Integration Capability

The integration capability is the enterprise capability system which functions to realize the enterprise system resources and the interconnections, interfaces, relationships and dependencies between the “resources” and between the resources and the enterprise, business, process, information and IT capabilities and the system and service offerings.

The purpose of the integration capability is to enable and assure the ability to control the interconnections, interfaces, relationships and dependencies between enterprise, business, process, information and IT capabilities and the system and service offerings of the enterprise.

Integration Management

Integration management is the enterprise capability management of the integration capability.

The purpose of integration management is to enable and assure the management and abilities of the integration capabilities of the enterprise are controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

Integration Management Responsibilities

The enterprise manager role is responsible for integration management of the integration capability.

Integration management work products include integration management ideas, requirements, plans, risks, opportunities, reviews, decisions and action items.

Integration Architecture

The integration architecture is the enterprise architecture of integration management of the integration capability.

The enterprise manager role uses the integration architecture to support integration management responsibilities and activities.

The purpose of the integration architecture is to provide a management structure to enable and assure the integration capability (interconnections, interfaces, relationships and dependencies) of the business, process, information and IT capabilities and system and service offerings of the enterprise is controlled, balanced and aligned to the mission and needs of the enterprise as a whole.

The structure includes each type of resource and the interconnections and relationships between the resource types and between the resource types and the business, process, information, IT, technology system, service and external architectures.

Integration Architecture Responsibilities

The enterprise architect role is responsible for architecting the integration architecture in support of the integration management responsibilities of the enterprise manager role.

Integration architecture work products include integration architecture concepts, descriptions, models, views, viewpoints, specifications and analyses.

Integration Team

As shown in Figure 42 – Integration Team Concept, integration is interconnected with and interdependent on business, process, data, configurations, records, IT, system offering, and service offering.
